Watchin' each other

One of the best things to do right now in the Kirby house is to watch Jack. He is starting to smile intentionally which will just melt your heart. Also, it seems as if he is really starting to make his attempts at talking. He will move his mouth in the cutest ways as if he is trying to say something and I absolutely love the look on his face when he makes a sound and he realizes that it came from him. We also really love to watch Jack sleep. It's just the most amazing and overwhelming feeling in the world to know that Jack is our son. Wow......God has blessed us richly!

On the flip side of us watching Jack is that he is really starting to watch us. The most obvious evidence of this is the picture below. Jack has decided that he wants to be just like his daddy. So from what he can tell right now that requires losing his hair on top! In all seriousness, I've been thinking so much lately about how the things we do right now are affecting him. We've taken him to church the past 2 Sundays and I think about how important it is that he learns what it is to worship God. Not just at church but all the time. It's so much fun to "watch each other" in our house. My prayer is that when people watch me they will see Jesus. Who is watching you? What are you teaching them? I love the words to this song by Rodney Atkins and I'm thankful that my son has the most amazing dad to watch (even if it means losing his hair already).

Verse 1:
Driving through town just my boy and me
With a happy meal in his booster seat
Knowing that he couldn't have the toy
Till his nuggets were gone
Green traffic light turned straight to red
I hit my breaks and mumbled under my breath
His fries went a flying and his orange drink covered his lap
Well then my four year old said a four letter word
That started with "s" and I was concerned
So I said son now now where did you learn to talk like that

Chorus 1:
He said I've been watching you dad, ain't that cool
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are
We got cowboy boots and camo pants
Yeah we're just alike, hey ain't we dad
I wanna do everything you do
So I've been watching you

Verse 2:
We got back home and I went to the barn
I bowed my head and I prayed real hard
Said lord please help me help my stupid self
Then this side of bedtime later that night
Turning on my son's scooby doo nightlight
He crawled out of bed and he got down on his knees
He closed his little eyes, folded his little hands
And spoke to god like he was talking to a friend
And I said son now where'd you learn to pray like that

Chorus 2:
He said I've been watching you dad, ain't that cool
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are
We like fixing things and holding mama's hand
Yeah we're just alike, hey ain't we dad
I wanna do everything you do
So I've been watching you

Bridge:
With tears in my eyes I wrapped him in a hug
Said my little bear is growing up
He said but when I'm big I'll still know what to do

Chorus 3:
Cause I've been watching you dad, ain't that cool
I'm your buckaroo, I wanna be like you
And eat all my food and grow as tall as you are
By then I'll be as strong as superman
We'll be just alike, hey won't we dad
When I can do everything you do
Cause I've been watching you
