Trick or Treat

So, if you are a faithful reader of this blog.....you're probably getting tired of the Halloween pictures already! I promise this is the last Halloween post! First off, I'm going to preface this post by talking about last year! Last year Halloween was on a Wednesday night and we had been out of town. We were supposed to get back in town in time to go trick or treat at a few houses before church that night and then we were going to head to church for Chris to teach his teen class. Well, we got stuck in some terrible traffic on the interstate and had to take a huge detour. So, we got home well after church had started and well after the trick or treat rush! We put Jack in his costume and took him over to our neighbor's house so we could at least say he went trick or treating!

This year was SUPPOSED to be completely different. I worked on Friday and got home at 5. The plan was to eat a quick dinner, go trick or treating together, and then come home and hand out candy the rest of the night. I was really looking forward to watching Jack walk up to our neighbors houses and make his best attempt at saying, "trick or treat" and seeing his eyes light up with a bag full of candy that he wouldn't get to eat very much of! I was also looking forward to handing out candy to all the well dressed kiddos who came our way! Once again, Halloween was more of a trick than a treat!

Within minutes of me walking in the door from work, Jack started crying/screaming literally out of nowhere. He had been sitting at the kitchen table coloring while Chris was fixing dinner and I was heading upstairs to change out of my work clothes. We have no clue why he started crying but NOTHING would console him. This went on for an hour and the only word Jack would stop to say was, "doctor." Of course this was after normal office hours. So, we loaded up and headed to the hospital. As soon as we got out of the driveway, the crying stopped. So, we didn't feel this warranted a trip to the ER so we headed to CVS minute clinic instead. By the time we got there, Jack was acting like Jack again. He was talking and pointing out everything. He was running around the treatment room and smiling and interacting with the very sweet nurse practitioner. Everything checked out fine.......no ear infection, no fever, no funny sounds in his chest or heart. By the time we left, we decided if we were going to have any hope of trick or treating before Jack would crash for the night, we should just drive thru somewhere and let Jack eat a snack in the car on the way home. So, we had a healthy Halloween meal of Taco Bell. Jack loves himself a cheese quesadilla! We got home after 7 (after the big rush of candy seekers on our street). Jack got to put on his costume and go to 2 houses.
Then, we just sat outside with our neighbor Ms. Angie and handed out candy. We still have a lot left over, so I'll probably be taking it to work this week! Here is Jack digging in to Ms. Angie's bowl! She had a special bag just for Jack which was awesome! It was full of special treats for a 20 month old! She is seriously the best neighbor ever (for a lot more reasons than the special treat bag).

And, drum roll........Looks like Jack has decided he wants to be a cowboy next year! Maybe, just maybe......next year will work out a little better for our little trick or treater! He was fine all day Saturday and then today he started into his major crying again at church. By the time we got home, he had a fever of 102 and has been pretty pitiful all day! He'll be going to the doctor tomorrow. Hopefully, we'll find out a little more about what's going on...

What a crazy Halloween! I do hope Jack gets better very soon. His costume was too cute on him! Glad you have a good neighbor who made the evening fun for him. :)
