Flooded

It has really been terrible this past weekend in our state. First of all, it rained a whole lot last week. And then Friday night and Saturday morning we had more and more storms that just kept coming and dropping about 10 inches of rain in a very short amount of time on already wet ground. The counties immediately to the south of us got the very worst of it.......it's been declared a national disaster area. Dams weakened and broke and entire hospitals flooded and had to be evacuated. There were buildings completely under water and all this happened before the 2 major rivers even crested. Where we are, we just had to deal with flash flooding. Saturday morning Chris had to go to the church to finish up a few things and he couldn't get home. He tried 6 different ways to our house and finally just had to park the car and walk. About an hour after he got home, the rain stopped and our flood waters receded enough for us to get our car back. But, it was only the beginning for the people to the south of us. My mom and aunt were on their way here for Sawyer's first birthday party and they couldn't get here because the interstate was under water (picture to the left above)! They tried several ways to get around it but every thing was closed. After trying to eat at Cracker Barrell (they were refused lunch because they had no workers) and after shopping a little bit at the outlet stores on the exit where they were stuck, they drove back to Louisville to spend the night because the flooding where they were was expected to get worse. On Sunday, the interstate was clear and they were able to make it up here. The biggest disappointment of the weekend for us was Sawyer's party that we almost didn't get to have. But, our inconvenience of being stuck at home for a few hours is so minor compared to so many. We'll be looking for ways over the next several weeks to go about 20 minutes south and help out in any way we can. Please just be praying for those who have lost so much in the floods and who will be rebuilding their lives for a long time to come.
